Tracey Adams: "Indeterminism and Art"

Thur June 13 2024 at 6pm

Taking place at Monterey Museum of Art's La Mirada Adobe, the first Canvas Series event features artist Tracey Adams whose artworks accompany the 2024 Summerfest in every visual aspect.

At this event, we will see and hear directly from Adams about her process and her artistic life that is intertwined with music, while being surrounded by a variety of her works like a mini exhibit. This one-hour event concludes with a "performance" of Adams creating a piece of her art to a live performance by cellist Tanya Tomkins of an iconic Bach Cello Suite movement.

Canvas Series #2

"Sonic Memories from Childhood Transformed" with Composer Kian Ravaei

Sat June 15 2024 at 5pm

We return to our original Sunkiss'd Mozart's home at this talk with the young and brilliant Iranian-American composer Kian Ravaei. Ravaei shares with us his extraordinary and humorous journey searching for harmony between the music surrounding his childhood, music he experimented as a more-or-less typical American teenager, and music he writes as a professional concert composer now. If you are curious whether there is an intersection where the Persian traditional instrument "setar" and techno music could coexist, you want to come and see what Kian has done. Talk and demonstration will be sandwiched by short performances by festival artists.
